aka "The Older Sister"

Think of Centretown as the Byward Market's older sister - one who got tired of the Clarence Street bars and was looking for something more refined but still hip. Still wanted the ability to walk/bike to work and play, but with less tourists and frosh parties.

Centretown is bounded by The Queensway to the South, Bronson avenue to the West, Lisgar street to the North, and the Rideau Canal to the East. It is located immediately south of the downtown business district and then Parliament Hill, along with City Hall and Department of National Defence on the Eastern edge. Centretown is a mix of residential properties, with single detached homes that date back to late 1800's being located right beside brand new modern high rise condominium developments. With the increase in development and population density throughout Centretown, the area has seen a sharp increase in commercial opportunities specifically shopping and restaurants. The first LCBO inside the ground floor of a residential building is located in Centretown (Bank and Mcleod). More coffee shops, more quality restaurants, and more "neighbourhood" feel.

This mix of housing, prime location, and numerous entertainment and shopping options, are what make Centretown a highly desired neighbourhood for downtown living.

With property values remaining high and lot sizes smaller, there is much less "buy, tear down, build" of single detached or semi-detached then when compared to Parkdale/Hintonburg (aka the "cool uncle").
